New year's eve post

There is change in the air

December 31st. It’s here again.

For some of you, this year isn’t what you imagined.
Hope became a stranger and faith seems so far away.
It’s so hard to picture anything else than this place in front of you.
All the ruins, the wreckage, the ashes.
This place reeks of all your failures, fears, doubts and lost battles.
Some of you have been here for so long that you’ve forgotten how to dream again.
Your defeat seems final. You’ve prayed and prayed. You’ve believed for a miracle. You’ve smelled the faint aroma of a breakthrough.
But here you are…sitting in the ashes.

2019 is knocking at the door.
Hope ebbs in your heart.
‘Maybe this year will look different. Maybe God will do something new this year. Maybe…’. You drift away but reality hits with all that you see in front of you.
‘Things won’t change’, the voice in your head whispers as your heart sinks.
The few seconds of hope seems to be miraculous in itself.

Dear friend, I know how you feel. I’ve felt this way too many times. And I want to remind you that you’re not alone in your disappointment. God wants to breathe life in you again. Everything you’ve lost. Everything that’s broken. Everything that seems so far out of your reach. Every dream that’s buried deep inside you. God wants to tell you ‘There is change in the air’. You may not see it now but God is doing something for you. Yes, for you.

Somewhere along the way, you started believing the lie that good things don’t happen to people like you. Somewhere along the way, you started believing the lie that God can do great things only for your friends and family. You’ve watched everyone experience their breakthroughs and miracles and promotions and you’ve sat there wondering if God even knows you exist.

I want you to believe this with everything you have left – God has not forgotten you.
Your time is coming. Your breakthrough is here. Your ashes are being redeemed.

You’re not going to stay in this place for long now. You’re moving forward. He wants you to believe that He is the God who heals, restores and rebuilds. He wants to remind you that this hopelessness is not the end of your story. ‘I’m not finished with you yet’, He whispers ever so gently, ‘There is more to your story’.

I hope you believe Him. I hope faith arises in you this year. I pray that you will experience breakthroughs in every silent prayer. And hey, 2019 may be the best year yet.

Arise, my dearest. Hurry, my darling.
Come away with me!
I have come as you have asked to draw you to my heart and lead you out.
For now is the time, my beautiful one.
The season has changed, the bondage of your barren winter has ended, and the season of hiding is over and gone.
The rains have soaked the earth and left it bright with blossoming flowers.
The season for singing and pruning the vines has arrived.
I hear the cooing of doves in our land, filling the air with songs to awaken you and guide you forth.
Can you not discern this new day of destiny breaking forth around you?
The early signs of my purposes and plans are bursting forth.
The budding vines of new life are now blooming everywhere.
The fragrance of their flowers whispers, “There is change in the air.”
Arise, my love, my beautiful companion, and run with me to the higher place.
For now is the time to arise and come away with me.
Song of Songs 2:11-13

“Afflicted city, lashed by storms and not comforted, I will rebuild you with stones of turquoise, your foundations with lapis lazuli.
I will make your battlements of rubies, your gates of sparkling jewels, and all your walls of precious stones.” Isaiah 54:11

Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.’” Ezekiel 37:11-14
